GOOD OLD DAYS
“By James ADAMS”
How would you describe your family life when you were young Mrs. Wilson?
Oh, my dear good old days… When I was young, the bounds of people were much stronger in families. We knew blood is thicker than water. People used to take çare of their elders in the family. My family had very strict rules. Trust was the first rule and everything was all in the family.
How did you spend your days?
We used to get up early in the morning and have a traditional English breakfast with the whole family. Every Sunday, families used to sit down together to eat roasted meat served with roast potatoes and vegetables. We used to have tea-time every afternoon. As children we used to have bedtime stories with our grandparents.
What activities did you use to do for fun? Were there any special days?
We used to have great fun in the Cooper’s Hill Cheese-Rolling festival held on the Spring Bank Holiday. İt used to be a local event but now it is a world-famous one. We, as a whole family, used to sit on the grass and watch the people competing to catch the cheese rolled down the hill. Moreover, we used to do Maypole dancing in a circle with colourful ribbons on the first day of May. İt was a great fun for children.
That’s nice. But we stili have these celebrations. Why do you think the new generation is not aware of them?
