The Legend of the Trojan Horse
A long time ago, there was an ancient city named Troy. It was on the coast of Asia, opposite the famous Greek city, Sparta. High and strong walls surrounded Troy to protect the city from invaders. İn wars, gates of the city were kept closed to prevent enemies enter the city. Inside the city, there were stairs to climb up to the top. Archers shot arrows down at enemies who tried to get into the city.
According to the legend,
Greeks couldn’t enter the city for ten years. When the Greek general, Odysseus, understood they vvouldn’t get över the walls, he decided to enter the city with a tricky idea. He said: “We‘ll leave a gift for Trojans to announce the end of the war. We are famous for art. The gift will be a beautiful wooden horse. There will be 30 men hidden inside it. While Trojans are sleeping, they will öpen the gates of the city and so we can get in and win the war.” The soldiers thought that it was a brilliant idea. The best Greek artist made a wonderful wooden horse and left it in front of the gates of the city and they pretended to sail away.
When Trojan archers at the top of the stairs saw the Greeks leaving the city, they thought that they had won the war and opened the gates to take the gift in. They wanted to keep the horse forever as a reminder of their victory.
That night, the Trojan people got so exhausted from their celebrations that they fell into a deep sleep. The 30 Greek men opened the gates of the city and let the Greek army inside. That was the end of the story that legend says.
