On November 1, 1928, the new law on the Turkish alphabet was adopted by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. After that, ‘Nation Schools’ were established countrywide in order to teach the citizens new letters and increase the literacy rate. On November 24, 1928, Atatürk introduced the new alphabet to the Turkish people in front of the blackboard and therefore was awarded the title ‘Head Teacher of the Nation Schools’ by the Council of Ministers.
